They usually grow in groups, and that's why I find the image a little sad, poor lonely mushroomSad. (Sounds like I'm under the influence of its psychoactive and hallucinogenic properties!)

To put your mind at ease there was a group just out of frame. These woods have so many of these beautiful fungi, that a singleton will, by the end of the week, have a group surrounding it at all stages of growth... In my image 'Happy days' you can clearly see the tiny fruiting bodies emerging alongside the fully grown ones...it is a wonderful place to be. The fungi here grow in undergrowth, alongside/under trees, in Reindeer Lichen, moss, open earth, in hollows and on banks... It certainly makes for some spectacular photography Smile
