Until January 2018 the hall was leased to the National Trust but has now reverted back to the Wright family who still open the hall to the general public
Eyam is known as the plague village after the Black Death of 1665 and 1666. An outbreak of the plague was contained when the villagers decided to isolate themselves from the surrounding communities.

By November of 1666 the plague was considered at an end leaving 260 of the population of 350 dead, but probably saved many thousands of lives in the North of England.
