eye eye

By Mayfly
A quick upload from a job I am currently working on. This one is from a series of shots for a makeup artist.

Comments and thoughts most welcome.

Cheers,

Andy.

i love the idea with the fabulous diagonal line and the eye etc are beautifully sharp and detailed but the bottom left seems a little untidy from a compositional point of view.

i think its the hand at the rear with the ring etc that are causing the distractions and im sure that this is one of those cases where a top manicure job would aid the overall quality and saleablity of the image.

Andy,

I agree with Phil above with this image but it is a really is a good angle etc. The rear hand does spoil the shot though and watch out for the loose hairs at the side of her face.

I've uploaded a mod which has been passed through Neat Image, this has smoothed the skin which is a technique often used in cosmetic photography. I also cloned out the loose hairs, darkened the ring a little and blurred the rear hand more. I also cropped a little.

Hope this helps

Thanks Phil & Dave,
I appreciate the feedback it's very useful. Thanks for the Mod Dave - you mention a skin smoothing technique (neat image) is this a plugin or standalone prog ? can't say I have heard of it before.

Regards,

Andy.

Technically good, but not happy with the composition. The eye and mascara brush should be dominant, the hand and fingers are actually the strongest part of the image, particularly the little finger stuck up in the air.

needs the eye to be larger and on the top right third with the hand lower, partly shown and much less obvious.

You have the basis for a very good image here but the key is simplicity. Anything extraneous has to go which, in this case, means the second hand and the pointy finger. (But don't just clone that finger out or people will wonder why she only has three!)

It would help to have the eye further from the edge of the frame. Putting it on the intersection of thirds might bring a lot of her face into the frame but I think that's the point to approach, if you can, so the eye is more visually prominent.

I'd also try to get a more appealing background than that dull grey. White is the obvious choice but I can imagine solid colours working well, too.
