Fagradalsfjall Volcano

By TheURL
Last weekend I flew to Iceland for a long weekend specifically to see the volcano erupting. Here are a few shots of it - a short video for my YouTube channel will be forthcoming shortly. Its hit and miss if you go, due to the weather (including wind direction), and due to lava encroachment, the longer you leave it the further away your vantage point will be - unless you can get on one of the helicopter trips. Its a vigorous hike to the vantage point and very windy making filming difficult. The last shot is a record shot showing people warming up next to the lava on their way back to the car-park!

Wow! What a stunning set. That is something I would love to see.

Hi Karen - I've just uploaded a short film that I made of the trip. The link is in the description. If you want to see it, go quick before (a) it stops, or (b) so much lava will have been ejected you'll have to see it for a lot further away, or only via helicopter. If you do go, allow several days, in case tours are cancelled due to weather or wind direction.

Sorry - crossed in the post. Just saw that you already had! Thanks for that - and for the mod too. You're right - the heat shimmer shows up way better in your mod than in my original. That's brilliant! I can't claim to have much experience in photographing volcanos. All the ones I've seen before were smoldering at most, or plain dormant. Thanks again Smile

Makes our bubbling mud pools look very puny.
