Fallen on Hard Ground, Harden, New South Wales

By BobinAus
Like my previous upload to the gallery (Hill Top Road), this picture was taken in the steeply rolling hills of the south west slopes of New South Wales. The distinctive shape of this fallen tree had caught my attention for several years as I cycled past it but only last winter did I have a camera with me in good light. Thanks to Arne, Sandy, Debu, Peter, Walt, Debu, Ivor and Allan for their comments. And thanks very much to all those who viewed, voted for, or commented on Hill Top Road.

My first thought was a strange animal looking for water in the holes by the rocks. Lovely light in this image.

A beautiful composition.....looks like it was shot during the "golden hour".

It's good to 'hear' from you Arne. Thanks very much for your kind comment. Including the foreground was a tricky job. I had to place the camera and tripod on the other side of a barbed wire fence while I composed and took the picture from the other side. When I returned home and looked at the picture on a computer screen, I was relieved to see a crisp and sharp foreground. Best wishes to you. Cheers, Bob

Thanks very much Sandy. Yes, I see an animal too even after looking at the shot many times over the last nine months. A strange and terrifying land squid is stalking the normally serene countryside of New South Wales. I barely escaped with my life and my tripod!TongueTongueTongue

Thank you very much Peter. Yes, the picture was taken a little while before winter sunset. I must have forgotten to provide the date and time in the EXIF data when I uploaded the picture but have just added it. Cheers, Bob

It looks very well weathered ...like it has been there a long while. The shape reminds me of a giant squid..
with a lot of arms missing. I Like the palette of colours in this one Bob ,
Best regards

Thanks for your comment Walt. I have wondered if farmers dragged the old tree to that position at the edge of the field. I couldn't see any hole indicating that it had been uprooted at that spot. Cheers, Bob

Great light, Bob, which emphasises the poignancy of the end of a life cycle longer than our own.
