Fallen Petal

By sneal
After a heavy rain shower the sun burst through and lit up this fallen rose petal. It was the texture of the petal and the sun glinting through the rain drops that drew my eye.
I took plenty of images, but since I have been trying to work out the best way to present them. This is a crop from the top right corner of the frame, about a quarter of the total image.

Edited in iPhoto (Apple Mac) for...
1. crop
2. 'highlights' to bring out a bit more detail in the brightest parts
3. 'upped' the sharpness slightly.

I would very much appreciate your comments - thanks.

Super detail in the drops, nice composition.

I like the water droplets but I am not sure you have shown the petal and the raindrops to best advantage. My main issue is with the background which takes your attention away from the flower. You have quite a small aperture and the background has therefore come into focus which leads to the distraction. Do you really need this amount of depth of field, bearing in mind the rose petal is fairly flat? The ideal is to get a lovely blurred background, so the eye focusses on the main part of the picture. Better still, do you need the background at all? How about filling the frame just with the petal. It looks like there ar some interesting colours and textures in the bottom right of the picture but they have been cropped out.

Definitely on the right track but the composition could be improved, in my opinion.

Like the detail and sharpness but would like to have seen that on the rest of the image that you had instead of the tight crop...

Thanks CathR - useful comments about the background and DoF.

And to Xxticy - you both mentioned that I have perhaps cropped it too tightly so I've uploaded the original full frame image.
