Farmers Market

By Nettles
This will be my last upload for a couple of weeks or so as I'm going on holiday - yippee.
I am going laden down with camera equipment so hopefully will bring back some good shots of warm weather to keep me going through the cold winter.

Today's upload is of our local farmers market which is held once a month. To say it is full of characters is an understatement. You have to be really careful though as a lot of them don't like you taking photos and one chap actually came up to me and insisted on looking through my shots. If there were any of him he wanted them deleted !! Obviously he didn't want to be seen by anyone.

There are some real crusties there, a few unsavouries and some down right grotty and stinky. What I have to put up with for my art.
Well these three chaps were some of the nice ones, and were busy discussing the birds in the cages that were about to be auctioned.
The market auctions anything from rabbits, through geese, ducks, chicken and well anything that they can get in a cage basically.

The light in the place is none existent, so the inside is very dark and the outside is bright, so please excuse the quality as I had no choice but to point my camera at the outside and into the bright light.

The building is being pulled down soon to make way for a multi million pound development, so what they will do with the market I do not know. There is also talk of getting rid of the small weekly market as well - call that progress, I don't.

Hope your weekend is going well, thank you for stopping by and your continued support.
See you in a couple of weeks.

Don't know what you're worried about.....Tesco sell s food thats far superior to fresh locally produced goods that are cared for and nurtured by hard working small farmers.
Why support your local farmers and trades people when you can fund the large souless food factories of europe.I don't know why they don't just knock down that big pile of rubble and rocks on the salisbury plain. You could get a huge supermarket on that amount of land its on!!!!

You found Lord Lucan. These markets are coming a rarety. Real shame, we will have to get the plastic stuff from tesco's.

Have a wonderful holiday, you will be missed.

Oooh Annette - you're brave going in there. I would have to buy all the animals up in sight and give them a good home for the rest of their lives! he-he. Done that before with chickens! However, super capture and definitely a shot to be in b/w me thinks. Colour would lose atmosphere I personally think. Well captured and documented.

An interesting story. I particularly like the background in this picture- the lines silhouetted against the bright light outside, and also the shapes of buildings beyond. I hope you have a great (and photographically productive) holiday.

The essence of an old time market and auction really comes thru. The B&W treatment seems to bring out the ageless quality of these gatherings. Have a great vacation!!!! Yea!
