Father's Day

By handlerstudio
A one day hiatus from Spain.....my computer is down at the moment, rebuilding itself....this is from my iPad. In my Men's Group at my synagogue, meeting via Zoom of course, every Monday night during the pandemic instread of every other.....tonight, we learned that the 16 year old son of friends Sid and Mindy, died last night in an accident between his bike and a car....he is an only kid...and now,his funeral and shiva will need to be on Zoom.......how do people keep going? These photos were projected on the outside of the Barnes Collection, as all our museums are closed.....photos, and captions of black fathers and their kids....it was a 15 minute cycle of photos of black fathers and their kids, belying the myth of absent black fathers....lots of people there from dark till 11PM. Beautiful, dignified images.....and feels emotionally ironic right now with the loss in our community... A loss that goes against the natural order of life......

So very sad for your friends. Like you say, I just can't imagine living through the loss. A lovely tribute to black fathers presented here.

So sad to learn about what has happened, Peter. These are terrible times in many ways.

My heart goes out to Sid and Mindy - such a sad loss and devastating thing to happen.
Your images are a wonderful tribute to all black fathers and deserve a wider audience.
I hope the world will learn from the happenings of recent times and move forward into a more tolerant and harmonious place.
I know it's a cliché but, this upload really is thought provoking!
Thanks for sharing, Peter.

I can't see the versions so will have to try again later. Have been having this kind of difficulty lately Sad dratted nuisance.
I just wish that it was realised that we are all people and whatever our colour or creed we should respect each other and perhaps learn as well.
I send condolances to your friends Peter - such a very tragic and sad happening.

Minority calls out to minority, and they can join together.

Let us build the chain of connection together. And one day, we will be a single universal majority.

It's so easy for me: white, male, a citizen of a country that grew rich on subjugation and slavery. My duty, as I see it, is to ask that we can put the past behind us, and build a society in which every man, every woman and every child is equally valued, cared for, and loved. And to work to make that a reality. It's hard to forgive historical injustice, but it is possible. It is hard to give up privilege and exclusivity, but it is possible.

How devastating for your friends Peter , as parent of an only child I can’t even begin to imagine what they are going through. My condolences...

Stunning shots of the Father’s Day exposition.... I hope the photos help to open up closed minds and hearts .
Best regards
