Thanks very much. I saw very few birds in Namibia - only a few LBJs - so this was quite a coup.

Fine sharp image here, beautiful bird. 1000mm is some kit you’re using.!

Lovely shot and well identified too. I wouldn't have been sure from my 'Newman's' which seems rather inadequate.
I am really enjoying your wildlife photos.

Thanks, but I can't take any credit for the identification: that was my guide! I usually use an app on my iPhone called eGuide to Birds of East Afric‪a, which makes it very easy to search for a keyword and scroll through the possibilities, but I was in Namibia, so that didn't work...!

That is some lens you are using. How far were you away from the duck ?

I used my Nikon 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lens with the custom 1.25x teleconverter that came with it. I must've been around 20 yards away from the hornbill.

You can work out the magnification of any focal length by dividing by 50mm (the approximate focal length of our eyes), so 1000mm divided by 50mm is 20x magnification.

I always admire photoraphers of wildlife for the immense patience they have.. I don't know if I could stand waiting for hours in any weather condition waiting for just that photo I had hoped for.. I guess the photography bug hasn't bitten me to that extentWink. So all the more: chapeau for this wonderful capture!
