Feeling rosy

By ColleenA
I visited Melbourne zoo today with a friend, they now have a Rose-crowned fruit dove in the butterfly enclosure. He loved the butterfly feeding table where he repeatedly sucked the honey nectar out the feeding holes. He frightened off this butterfly that was feeding ...

That is such a harmonious mix of colours. Somewhat baffled me when I saw what looked like a pigeon crossed with a parrot. Good DOF as well. Enviable shot.

My thoughts too! Much more attractive than the pigeons around here. A lovely detailed shot, Colleen, very well framed and captured 👍

An excellent image Colleen. I love the blurred wings of the butterfly, showing the speed it flew away. Pam

I'm surprised that they have a bird in the butterfly enclosure, but they obviously know what they're doing.
I thought that the only birds who could suck were pigeons, but found this:-
"Most birds drink water by filling their bill with the liquid—often from morning dew on leaves—then tilting their head back, using gravity to send the liquid into their digestive tract. Pigeons and doves are among the few birds that can suck water while their head is down. They don’t need to look skyward to swallow."
That's why your dove can suck the honey.
