Insect identification is not one of my strong points, Carol. But for sure you have captured this specimen beautifully, in fine detail and for me, V 1 takes a lot of beating. Beautifully captured images!

Well you got one,i went looking for them yesterday found quite a lot of males but did not see one female,should be more about in the next few days,as the females hatch about 10 days later than the males..Alec.

It's so clever how you get these creatures to stay nice and still for you to photograph! I can never manage it. I do like V3, although it's lovely to see the pattern on the wings too.

Super set of images Carol and plenty of detail in there from your compact! Image 2 would be my favourite with the great diagonal composition.

The species is in fact a female Common Blue. The easiest way to distinquish the Adonis Blue from the Common Blue (apart from the amazing brilliant blue in the Males) is that the Adonis blue has black dots on the white borders around the edges of the wings whereas the Common Blue does not, as in this photo.
