Female Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius)

By teocali
Female Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius) - L: 7.25" WS: 9.5" WT 0.67ozs. Uncommon in scrubby woods and hedgerows with isolated tall trees. Solitary or in small groups, feeding on insects, larvae, fruit and nectar. Smaller than other orioles and sometimes mistaken for a warbler. Male a distinctive dark chestnut and female yellowish-green overall. A pair was nesting in our friends' garden - the male was very shy but I managed a shot which I will upload next week.
