Little more than a record shot really, as taken from 44.9m away and heavily cropped in, this image of a wild Female Red Grouse (Lagopus lagopus) just illustrates the incredible camouflage of the bird in its natural habitat of heather moorlands. There seemed to be a number of males around, with their red crests, but this was the only female I spotted, perhaps because they blended so well into their surroundings in the Cairngorms National Park.
