The textures and feathery greens really come over very well here, I think.
I love fennel; MrsW is not keen on the aniseed flavour so I get the lion's share when she includes it in North African dishes.

Also not keen on the taste of fennel. Why the urgency for artichokes?
Another wonderful still life and I think we have all had that feeling that there is something more to be had out of an image.
The mod I started with a solid color layer set to soft light at 25% and move the colour picker around the image. I thought the green from the fennel worked well. Added a b&w dodge and burn layers. Followed by a LUT trying to find that change in light. Last played with the light over parts of the image.

Does the inverted scales tray represent your indecision, MJ? Or is it to prevent any more fennel being added, subconsciously wanting artichoke?

Beautiful light and textures Janet, I have never had artichokes or fennel, did you want to eat them as well as employ them as model?
I think the fennel makes a nicer model than artichoke ( after I googled what one looks like, I have had a sheltered life)
