Feral Pidgeon

By paulbroad
Not particularly original, but I have just bought that Fuji 100/400 and, at first use, it is quite nice. Nothing like as heavy as the 50/500 Sigma although the X-T10 body looks a bit small on it and I'm using an old pistol grip to get decent balance. Just ordered a modern grip with electronic shutter release.

This is using aperture priority f8, auto exposure, single spot auto focus and the OIS system reputed to give 5 stops. 1/60 sec hand held and at 600mm, in effect. ISO800. Have great hopes! Doing some tests on monopod and tripod.

New electronic release just arrived and tested. Seems a decent bit of kit but nothing like as well made as the 40 year old version. However, the electronic release is fine and thus keeps the other hand free to zoom etc. as needed.

That all works...

Maybe shave a fraction off the left side of the frame? Nothing else.

Yes, millions of them! A few years ago we never saw one in our garden, 8 there this morning, all looking different. Actually quite attractive birds. also get Woodpigeon, Collared doves, Magpies and al the usual garden species. Times are changing and it's partly to do with the 'do gooders'. There are few people shooting Woodpigeon these days to control numbers and eat and that is not necessarily a good thing, in my opinion of course..
