Ferryside

By robincoombes
A calm peaceful weekday morning along the Welsh coast, the tide low, the sky blue. In the distance a signal drops, a quiet rhythmic beat is heard of an approaching train, quiet at first then louder and louder, cotton wool clouds of steam appear over the roofs of the seaside village. Then the express comes into sight, a pair of beautiful proportioned shiny black engines billowing white steam snaking along the seashore. Then in a second of flying pistons and rotating steel wheels it is past heading to London. Slowly as the train rounds the cliff in the distance a final hoot on the whistle and peace returns.
