I am so envious . A perfect portrait of a beautiful bird in wonderful surroundings . How does Grom know it was on manual focus ?

Michael, I was about 20 feet away. I was trying out a new tripod and noticed that there were about a dozen or so Field fares nipping in & out of the trees by the roadside. Rather frustratingly, they would linger on the darker side of the trees but this one came out just long enough.....
Mavis, if you use a 2x converter on that lens (Canon 100-400 IS) you lose the auto-focus. It's to do with the max aperture not being big enough to gather enough light for the system. (I love your Wren picture).

Great shot. One came into my neighbour's garden yesterday and was eating a still-hanging apple. Tried to get him, but again too many small branches in the way.

Nice shot Ron. Like the background and the natural framing with the berry branches.

Quite nice, I never get anything this good with my converter somehow. Often, I am likely too far away and expecting more. This is elegant.

Great shot. The modified versions with a touch more contrast really show this off even better.
