Fields of Gold

By tripodted
I found this shot while looking through old files on my hard drive. It was taken just after sunrise in a rape seed field in Co Down. I tried to break the scene down so as it just contained the yellow field and the sky.
Exposure was 1/60 sec. @ f/16 (18mm) ISO 100
Thanks for all the comments and clicks on my last upload.
Comments and critique welcome.
PS Ok I know the song I used for the title of the image refers to fields of barley but I thought I'd use it for this shot.
Wink
PPS After reading the comments I have uploaded a remanipulated V2 version .

Nice content on sky and Rape put needs the contrast boosting and maybe the sky working on?
Very good potential

Good in its simplicity
The sky might be a tad too darkish,
I'd have tried to make the clouds pop a bit.

Hi Ted,
Another nice image, although not one of your best for me. I think there are two main reasons for this- a lack of any real point of interest to guide the viewers attention, and the picture overall just seems a little grey.

I realise this is one of a sequence of images all framed the same, and you may have a good reason to present them as a panel, but as an individual image, the stark white border is making the actual picture look rather more lifeless than it really is. Having said that, a bit more drama in the sky from a grad filter and/or polariser would, I think, help lift the image. As for a centre of interest, I'm certainly not going to suggest the omnipresent girl-in-red, but maybe a distant tree against the horizon?

I've posted a mod to illustrate what I mean here, where I have darkened and increased the contrast in the the upper sky, slightly darkened the distant field on the left, 'darkened' the border, and planted a tree.

Anyway, just some ideas for though.

Thanks for all the clicks and comments.
The constructive critique from Rick and bruslaw is much appreciated and a big thank you to Malcolm for taking the time to critique the image and upload a mod. Your points are all taken on board and I have reprocessed the image putting in some more contrast and it looks a lot better.
Unfortunately Malcolm there were no photogenic trees or girls in red dress in the area at the time. Wink Many thanks again for the mod.
