Figs

By chase
The construction of my 'shadow box' is underway so I thought I would try it out.
The light is from a slit in the top section that I can widen or narrow, depending on where I want the light and how much I need.
For this practice I used a small LED torch perched on the top and jiggled it about until I was fairly happy....ish Wink
No other light is involved but I found the shadows on the base just a touch harsh so I think a window flap cut into each side of the box would help.
I can't wait to refine the box a little better and try it out on some of my old bottles.

I did drop a slight texture on the back , it was boring Wink
Anyroad, here you go................

Thanks for getting this far.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

Figs, my favourite fruit! Or on second thoughts, are these red onions? No, they’re figs! That’s a beautiful filigree candle-holder, Again that rather sensuous ‘film noir’ feel to this, like the plums and scales image👌 Am intrigued with how much energy you put into these images, Janet, and the fine results you get. Good luck with the light box ☀️

Looking good, Janet, a nightlight or similar ( wouldn't want to set fire to all your hard work Wink ) just out of shot on the right might just lift those shadows enough ????

Hmm, a little nightlight may do the trick, I will test it out and see what happens.

Interesting. It would be good to see your setup cos I can't visualise your shadow box. How does it differ from a light box?

I'm not even going to try and say that out loud !! Wink

I will try and answer your question Fiona.
For me, a light box lets the light in, a shadow box keeps the light out except from above.
I have made mine out of a cardboard box, so, open at the front with a moveable/removable top.
All painted black on the inside or lined with black paper/material.
The top has a slit cut in it, just about in the middle, with a length of cardboard cut a little wider than the slit so it can be moved over the slit to control the amount and direction of the light. Then, a light of whatever source coming from the top only.
Therefore it creates shadows on the base. I can slide in different bases on the bottom, depending on what effect I am looking for.
I will try and find a decent link and post here shortly.

Here you go , mine is similar but I can change the 'Window' size with the wider length of cardboard and I have mine ( at the moment) with the 'window' at the top.

Gorgeous, rich colours, Janet.
And love the figs, too.
Has a medieval Persian 'feel' to it.

Excellent colours Janet, and arrangement too!
Watched your link. Looks so easy to do the shadow box, its the arranging and taking the shots that get me flustered. You must have the patience of a saint!
