Five Fingers Strand, Donegal

By ladigit
This is another shot taken on the same evening as the one I posted yesterday. I think I prefer this one - the movement in the water, though not sure of the sky. Perhaps I need to give it more contrast using curves?

All feedback welcome!
Thank you,
Tracy

Theres an easier, and better way. Adding contrast will also increase brightness, ans the issue you want to address is actually exposure.

Again, back to the RAW filke, or, if you dont have it, open the JPEG with CS and ACR, or LR.

Reduce exposure by -1.2

Save as a new file name. You now have another version, with a sky thats exposed less; overlay this on the first image using the move tool while holding down shift (this aligns the images), use a layer mask, and paint the lower area in the mask with black to restore the brighter sea. Flatten and save.

Thats what the mod is Ive uploaded.

Hope it helps,

Regards

Willie

I actually like the softness and lightness of the sky - it lets my eyes and soul move outwards past the cliffs to the vast ocean with the wind and the sun...
I also like Willie's mod but it has a different atmosphere - it keeps me more on the beach, occupied with the little waves...
It is a very beautiful photo Smile

I like as it is, apart from just a sliver of additional exposure in the sky, there is something about the soft light you get in the west.

Willie is right. You are a touch over exposed, especially in rpthe sky and that reduces impact.

Always difficult with this sort of subject - you take loads of shots, and hope one is as near perfect as you need...

I like what Willie's done - I might have burned in the sky (that's what I'd do in the darkroom...), and possibly the bottom right corner as well.

Maybe I'd like a tiny bit more room round the rock/ripple on the right, and the small wave on the left - but you can't legislate for that kind of thing.

And it is lovely and restful anyway, with a tiny tinge of sadness...

Thank you all so much, I will definitely be looking at some work on the sky - I think I like the bottom half of the image but the sky for me is where the over exposure is a bit distracting. I will try what Willie suggested with the mask and will see how I get on Smile
