Flaky Thistle

By GlynnisFrith
We went to the NRM York yesterday as the weather was total horrid for outdoor photo's where this was nice & dry undercover photography just the ticket.

I came across an old wooden carriage which was in need of restoration it was from the Scottish Railway Company, it looked like their logo was the Scottish thistle well what did you expect a Leek? LOL.

I found the logo fascinating the paint was very badly cracked & flaky, but made a great subject for my macro lens, I have uploaded 4 images to show you.

Version 1: a close up of the thistle flower
Version 2: another close up of the logo
Version 3: the only remaining part left of the logo
Version 4: the whole carriage to give you the scale

Worth going large to get the impact if you have time

Thanks for stopping by & your interest in my other uploads

Beautiful textures. I'm curious what the original colours were. #1 is my favourite.

An excellent variety of images, Glynnis, the perfect subject for macro. #1 is particularly imaginitive and successful, it is so good to see the context in #4.

I looked at the 4 pictures before reading down, as is my way. I was so glad to reach 3 & 4 and be certain that this was a naturally occurring effect, not Photoshopping, somehow it seems much more satisfying when nature has done it for us. They are all wonderful, but it's definitely 1 for me.

Wow, V1 for me, too. I immediately thought you had added an effect to a thistle, and expected to see a real thistle in one of the versions. However, I like it even more for it being natural. A perfect subject for a macro.
