Flutterby.... Butterfly

By Siouxsiesus
A sweet smelling Spring day... I came across this Butterfly Fluttering around some pink blossoms. I snapped away and was very lucky to capture not just one but several great captures. Sharing this one today because I feel FREE LIKE A BUTTERFLY .......

You have caught a nice action shot here! Nice focus, colors and clarity! Maybe an even shorter exposure time was needed here to freeze the wings, but you have reached the limits of ISO and aperture, so not so much more to doSad.
The composition is good, but it can be improved by placing the butterfly more centrally. It would have been better to include some more of the right upper corner flower, giving a target for her flight. But nothing can be done now. So I would suggest a more tight cropping.
Finally some burning of the distracting white areas, could help.
All the best, George.

Welcome to EPZ Susanne.

What an opportune moment! No time to think about settings, just shoot, and its worked quite well. Your exposure mode is not shown in the settings, - I will guess it was P or A, but let us know if you can.

It can be tweaked if you want. The ISO noise can be reduced, - I used Noise Ninja; for me, the saturation is a little too high, - and this can cause loss of detail, so Ive desaturated a little; and as for composition, I think it can suit a tighter, dead square crop. You have it almost square, so really a cloer crop that removes some, but not all the flower. Ive also removed that small twig running across the image.

As its cropped to a smaller size, Ive used a fame to show it off at near the 1000 pixel size.

All this is in my modification, - if you scroll up this page, click the modifications tab, and view large, you will see what I mean.

Enjoy the site, hope this is helpful,

regards

What a lovely image you have captured full of the joy of spring/summer.
You'll have read the above advice by the experts and seen the mod by banehawi which
is pretty darned good. Ideally freezing the action is best and you've certainly done the best you can to do that.
I think this is a swallowtail butterfly (an absolute beauty) - there are some experts on butterflies on the site who will correct me if I'm wrong!
Hope you enjoy Ephotozine and learn as much as I have in just over a year!
