I really like this image (its an Emerald Swallowtail). Yes, the wings are a little blurry, but as you point out they don't stay still for long! I like the way you've caught the body/head quite sharply, it looks as though it's flying!
Gorgeous colours and a good oof background - not bad!
P.S. Both the 'Green Banded' and the 'Emerald Swallowtail' have the latin name Papilio palinurus - so you can take your choice!
(I am really looking forward to seeing the other shots you have!)

You certainly should be pleased with this shot - it's really, really good.
I really like the movement in the wings - it gives a great sense of movement, which as you say is quite speedy on these creatures.
I do indeed think the body is sharp, quite sharp enough for me. The detail you have captured in the wings is also incredible.
However, it would have been nice if the beautiful tail were in focus a little more, although that would require a smaller aperture, and I'm sure in such light conditions, it's better to get a sharp body than get a blurred everything!
I think for a first time this is great, much better than my first attempt.
Can't wait to see the rest - I'm sure they are as good as this...
I hope it helps

Well done Fran, not easy is it,especially indoors in a hothouse
Try taking a small piece of plain card with you next time to pop behind the subject, then you can use a smaller aperture & get more in focus. The movement in the wings is hard to avoid but it would have been nice to have seen that beautiful tail in better focus.Push up the ISO a tad to get a better speed & firmly cross your fingers !
