Bridgewater Canal.
Worsley, Salford.
Because of leaching of iron ore in the underground parts of the canal, the water was always a dark orange colour. In more recent times a lot of money and effort has been put into removing this strong colouration. Water is pumped from the mine into settling lagoons and then reintroduced into the canal. In some quarters there is some regret at this loss of the canal's iconic colour.Tags: Canal
