For Crying Out Loud...

By mrswoolybill
So there we were in Newcastle last week. We'd just had a relaxed coffee break, and were trundling our cases to the Metro station, to head out to the airport. When up pops a Town Crier in full regalia, with a (presumably press) photographer in tow.
They stopped for some very quick shots at Grey's Monument, but by the time I'd got my camera out they were off again.
So of course I did the obvious thing - dumped my suitcase with Bill and set off in hot pursuit. Fortunately they stopped again at the Cenotaph in Old Eldon Square.
By the time I got back to Bill he was having kittens about missing our flight - but we still made it in time.
I found out afterwards that this is a real Town Crier, from Alnwick up on the Northumberland coast, and the photos were to publicise a week of out-door community theatre events based on him telling local stories.
Thanks for looking,

At first I thought you couldn't have staged a shot of two more different occupations....but then they're both in the communication business. Well captured.

Thanks folks! My goodness, everyone's up bright and early today.
Well spotted Barbara, that's Boskoops, our favourite coffee haunt in the background.
Annette - I don't think there would be any objection to what I was doing - a PR chap who was with them was killing himself laughing, and gave me some leaflets about the event.
Oh, and some nice lines for Mick in the reflections - I hadn't even noticed that!

PS Please note that the photographer has carefully positioned his subject so that half the face is in dark shadow. As he didn't appear to be using fill-in flash I assume that he's been doing a spot of dodging, as I had to in order to get any sign of the right eye!

Rock - he's the Alnwick Town Crier so I suspect he might support Berwick Rangers!

Nicely taken shot Moira. Got the comp' just right.
Trouble is, believe it or not, I was going to put a picture of Rochesters town crier on tonight, but will hold that one back for a bit i think. Any way, this is a better shot than mine.

Great capture, especially with the crouching photographer, which makes a lovely composition.
It took me ages and several attempts to get to your image, but our puppy loved it because I used the waiting time to play with her Wink

Some bums are always spoiling a good shot Wink. A great capture . Only ever seen one once and that was in Yorkshire . A bitter cold Easter . We were having delicious homemade veg soup in a pub and he popped in . I think for a warm by the fire .

Love this - not only the subject's proud expression and the excellent composition & colour - but it reminds me of one of those small toys where you click under the base and the toy collapses & then it pops up again when you stop clicking.
