Former brick works

By chataignier
Around the village of Puycheny in Haute Vienne there are a number of ancient brick and tile works that exploited the plentiful clay deposits in the area.
This machine (extruder) worked the raw clay and forced it through a die to form - in this case - hollow bricks. The wooden fork was used to pick up the soft brick and transfer it to a drying rack before it was fired in an oven at 1000-1200C.
One site is still working, making tiles for historic building restoration projects.
