A cute looking critter! It's a Velvet Ant (not an ant at all, but a wingless wasp!). You've caught all it's colours and details brilliantly!

I bet those pincers would do some real damage to your fingers Carol.....it`s a magnificent capture....Mal.

Okay, Carol, I am fully awake now...!
What marvelous photography; the detail in each image is beyond words.
That's one of the hairiest, horniest, toothy beasties you've ever uploaded ...Wink

I see Karen nas ID'd it for you, Carol, and being a wasp I am not surprised it has substantial jaws, but as you say it does rather look like an ant.
Great detail captured.

Never seen anything like it!
Incredible looking insect carol!
Looks live the metamorphosis between a spider, and a bee or a gigatic ant... with a lot of evolution to pass by to complete the transformation!
Thank you for the find, and the great images shared Carol! Grin

A beautiful little ant Carol. I'm glad the jaws are only used on leaves. Although V1 and V2 show the jaws so well my favourite is V3 which shows the colours and markings so well.

V3 for me on this one.
I prefer V2 over V1, it's the diagonal composition.
