Four Sparrers !

By Niknut
My wife called me to see this female sparrow feeding it's fledgling youngsters.....they were on the garden fence about 20 feet away, & we could see them through
the kitchen window 45 degrees to our right !

I grabbed my Panasonic FZ45, as it's got the only long lens I own.....set everything (quickly) to full auto, & took a few shots leaning full stretch over the kitchen sink,
& through two layers of double-glazing, with my elbows on the window-sill.

The lens was wound out to full optical zoom plus digital zoom, which I think is in excess of 1000mm (35mm terms), & the image-stabiliser working overtime, I got 6 shots
off before the birds fled off.........3 shots successful, & 3 rejects.........the best one gave me the shot as you see it !

Cropped a wee bit off the sides, & trimmed to a 'letter-box' shape to get rid of the fence panel, & next-doors shrubbery......to create a nice little family group during
their feeding activities..........has a touch of 'ahh' & cuteness about it I think, so under the circumstances I'm well pleased with the result, especially as I don't do
bird photography, as I haven't got the equipment or patience for it (a quality I admire in anyone who shoots this stuff !).

So. feel free to be critical, I know the quality isn't 100% (it's a bit 'grainy' full-screen ! ) but there we go !........

Finally a massive thankyou to all you good folk for your comments & votes on 'Light Reading 2'......got my first 'ton-up' with this shot, so I'm one chuffed old 'bunny' !!!!!

It's quite charming, Keith, a little queue of youngsters waiting to see what's on the menu. Well worth the effort.

Hi Keith, I doubt if you would have got them all so well in focus with a prime due to the very small dof and this is where the advantage of having a camera such as this comes in handy with a shot like this. A good catchlight in the eye and the detail is quite good too, well done all round Wink

Best kitchen sink drama I can imagine. Great result too, these wee Sparrows zoom around at great speed. Well done to the lady of the house too, for the shout.

First aww! I think this is adorable, sometimes it doesn't always have to be for perfection, just getting a message across, and personally I think you did a great job!!...Kathy

The sparrows seem to have done well this year, we've had them in our garden as well........Tried to count them the other day, but lost it completely at about 50, reckon there must be close on 70 plus of the little beggars!......Trouble is they're keeping everything else out, apart from the Starlings......grrrrrr.....Never mind that's nature.

Considering the conditions I've seen a lot worse.....
