Fowl Play

By LynneJoyce
We are entering the breeding season so the birds here are in their finest plumage and ready for action. The lady Mallard featured in the opener and V's 4,6,8 & 13 had no less than five Drakes in pursuit. The captive Geese shown in their enclosure in V's 1, 5 & 9 had their wings clipped. You can see a detailed shot of a clipped wing in V1. The domestic Geese were frequently visited in their enclosure by the wild Canada Geese featured in other shots who flew in for a little recreational activity then flew out again.

All these images were captured during my walk along the canal with Ansel on Sunday afternoon. The money I paid for his swimming lessons really paid off when he fell into the canal. Bless him, he stayed very calm, swam competently and got himself out with only a little injured pride. I was too preoccupied with his welfare to take any shots.

Thank you for viewing and I hope that you enjoy at least some of these anatine and anserine antics.

It's that time of year. Soon there will be adorable little fluffy feathered ducks to capture. A great set. You get to see so much more when you have a dog.

Yes, a good title for this feathery set of images: you had a fine day out with so many lovely shots of the wildlife.
Like them all, Lynne, although some of the mallard images are my favourite.
The final version tends to suggest what they were thinking about your attentions.......ho, ho!

There's quite a bit of preening going on there, Lynne! I've found there seems to be more geese about and less ducks than several years ago, they seem to be taking over the duck's patches - certainly by the riverside in York, by the King's Arms pub.
