Foxglove Surprise!

By tonyguitar
Foxglove are nothing new to me. Have enjoyed seeing them over the years.
Recently while on a short visit to Union Bay just south of Courtenay / Comox BC CA. I was amazed to see this large top most flowering of what may be several flutes banding together to form the bigger flower.
My guess is that super fertilizer prompts this rare growth.

Thanks for your comments on my upload. I don't think this has anything to do with fertiliser. I imagine it is some sort of hybrid grown there. Interesting.

Fascinating stuff and a superb capture - especially with the little visitor!

Bit of a musical theme going on with this one what with flutes and trumpets . If the flower had the blues it would have been well suited to me Smile

Thanks for the clicks. I wonder if VickyF's [above], foxglove upload will grow like this one. You can see that strange red stemen in that bloom as well. TG

Sandy, I recall that you may find this big foxglove bloom, [more than one], in front of the Old post office in Union bay. TG
