Fred's Calcite

By Big_Beavis
Many thanks for c and c on my last upload. Tried something different last night for a friend who is very keen on Geology. Room for improvement I think.

I have a large collection of rocks that I pick up in the bush so can apprciate the beauty of this shot i like how it seems to be almost airborne !

The only improvement I could suggest is a shadow underneath to anchor it down as it looks to be floating, or is that the intention. - gary

I agree with Gary, it looks like it's floating, like a meteorite in spaceGrin. Also, I see no reason why you can't go in closer, and even fill the frame with the crystals, perhaps as an alternative shot. I've done this with some of my stones and, although they sometimes tend to be quite abstract, I like it. Another idea that springs to mind is to use one of those small plastic stands that gemstone suppliers sell, place it on some dark velvet and get a little shadow.
