I agree with Gary, it looks like it's floating, like a meteorite in space
. Also, I see no reason why you can't go in closer, and even fill the frame with the crystals, perhaps as an alternative shot. I've done this with some of my stones and, although they sometimes tend to be quite abstract, I like it. Another idea that springs to mind is to use one of those small plastic stands that gemstone suppliers sell, place it on some dark velvet and get a little shadow.
