Miserable, cold, wet, grey, it's a total tragedy, I forgot a cup of tea this morning. Sorry, did you think I was on about the weather. This is more important, I mean I had to pour it down the sink. That poor tea bag, all those innocent leaves, oh do I feel faint now, there's only one thing for it, I'll have to put the kettle on.

Isn't the weather awful again. The garden is under about an inch of water, it just can't drain quick enough. I had to take my son to college this morning, that was fun, plenty of lying water, flooded areas and spray to contend with.
I do feel sorry for the people who are suffering with flooding, I can't imagine anything worse than having an unstoppable force such as water penetrating and ruining your beloved home.
It's not as if the insurance companies jump straight into action either, some of the people are effectively homeless for up to a year waiting to get work done, work which is possible to complete within a month.

Today's upload is from a while ago and was taken from the hide at Rowlands Gill near Newcastle. I couldn't believe my luck when I spotted this Red Kite flying overhead. The day had been rubbish up until that point, nothing really doing, a swan and a duck, that was about it. I grabbed a few shots of this beauty. The sky was superb and clear as you can see, I thought then whilst cooped up in the hide how wonderful it would be to be truly free like this bird. All that open space, peace and stress free, what a dream.

V2 is for Mick, Happy Birthday mate, have a crackingly rusty day.

Hope you like it, thanks for looking and for any comments.

A lovely shot like this one alot.

Free as a bird, and the space strengthens that feeling.

Two cracking shots! The kite is brilliant and sharp against the blue sky, and the birthday card is excellent with the washed up wood planks smeared with juice of rust and the bolts with texture and all.SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

A fine composition in V1, Andy; and I'm sure Mick will appreciate the nice pair in V2 Smile

re: the weather: I heard on the radio this morning that Devon and Somerset constabulary (I think it was) are putting out messages about drivers and standing water. The messages are (more or less) Your car can't swim and Remember you are driving a Honda not a Haddock. And even then somebody will get it wrong.

V1 is as much about the freedom to soar, the miracle of flight as about the bird ID. Magnificent.
I've seen kites over the Tyne at Prudhoe, but not often - much more commonly on the Red Kite Trail . Not sure if there's a hide there though.
V2 - what a pair of beauties...

Sorry about your tea Andy. Sad Two great images - the red kite is very special, and v2 will hopefully please at least one of our band!

I like the bird in flight but the vote goes to the Mikbee special.

V1 is all about freedom - beautiful and minimalist Andy.

I was not aware till too late about Mick's birthday, or I am sure I could have found some rust somewhere! It does seem to be everywhere doesn't it.

I've heard you all are having so much rain, and here we hardly have any. We had a demonstration of booming thunder and lightning last night and the clouds managed to squeeze out 0.03" of rain - more a tease than anything worthwhile!
