Free Spirit

By RWPhotoGraphix
another from my painting with light shoot using a wind up torch and a lit candle, i tried to give the effect of something coming out of the flames by waving the torch up and down like a mental case whilst keeping the shutter open, this was shot in the dark with only the candle light and torch light.

iso - -200 3 second exposure 30mm focal length f/29 spot meter
hope this makes sense! lol

Version 2 is the least effective as it doesn't have a dynamic angle or obvious movement in the frame.

Sue he is asking for a constructive critique and I guess that means how can he do better, not what has he done that is not so good

OK Ryan you dont need such a tiny apperture for this as it wont catch all the light if you are waving it around madly, you can use say f 11. I think this would provide better results in terms of light that is moving

V2 is the best IMO as it suggests a flame coming up from the candle, but I think you should try an LED torch, you can pick them up so cheaply at elec. stores, one with a tiny head so you can draw with it, then you can draw the flame above the candle

if you would like to see a light dance let me know and I will post it up behind one of my other images, not the sort of thing I put up on here, me dancing with light, in the middle of the night ... I look whacky enough as it is lol but you may get some better idea of settings then with moving lights

hope that helps Ryan, your doing a great job, practice is everything and ask as much as you like

Aww Thanks Dianna thats great! im really chuffed your helping me! im gonna have a break from light painting until i have a smaller torch its hard with the wind up one! would love to see the light dance Tongue
hopefully one day i will get there!! Tongue
Kind Regards

Ill put the dance up later.... I'll PM you to tell you where it is, its a bit mad so will only leave it up for a short while Smile

you can paint with any thing really just that what you are trying to do here a little LED would be better, I am sure some others on EPZ can give you other advice too I am not the expert of course
but hope it helps Smile
