French Marigolds

By Humblebee
French Marigolds before the slugs and snails had a feast. Anyone have any idea how to stop these munchers from demolishing them, because I love to grow them ...

Well I am so glad that you liked my silly Sunday image, was a last minute thing, but he is so ugly and yet so happy, he always brightens and lightens my day - and I thank you for popping in and leaving your lovely comments and your much appreciated votes ... Carol GrinGrinGrin

Lovely rich colours, Well detailed and nicely focused on the main flower.
Getting rid of the munchers - depends how humane one is!! Sink beer traps - they could drown happy?GrinGrin
I have a friend who goes out with a torch around midnight and collects them in a jar, and then sets them free miles away in the countryside on his way to work next morning!!!!! That is NOT a joke, truly.

I usually use small beer bottles lying on their sides with a small amount of beer. For the last five or six years hardly seen either so I stopped. Last year and this year with all the rain they took over. Back to letting them drink themselves to death I think. I wonder if they are like dogs and cats, and can find their way home again Wink

Excellent image with lovely rich colour Carol. You could always try sprinkling slug pellets on the ground around your plants

Wow Carol !! I have never seen Marigolds look so pretty !! This is an excellent photo !!
Just yesterday my wife and I were talking how snails seem to smell and be drawn to marigolds Smile We heard that finely broken egg shells sprinkled around them does the trick - so we started doing that - cannot vouch for it yet Smile

Thank you all for your advice and of course your lovely comments. I'm glad I took a few snaps of these marigolds before the wretched critters decimated them.

I read somewhere that fine gravel stops them, so having loads of rough fine gravel from my fish tank I gave it a try, ha ha ha - no it doesn't. I don't use slug/snail pellets, they kill everything that eats slugs and snails - so it's back to beer, at least they go happy Grin

There is a simple way that works except for the smell, crush a clove of garlic in your watering can then water round your plants, keeps cats off as well. trouble is my wife hates the smell of garlic I love it lol. Nice French Marigold, one of my favourite flowers very nice colour and well taken detailed shot, nice light regards Leon.GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinWink

A wonderfully composed photograph, the light working beautifully as it caresses the golden petals.
