Freshers Week

By dark_lord
Students are in the process of returning to universities right now so for this week's Film Friday I'm looking back to October 1983 and the student society stalls during Freshers Week at Nottingham University.
Pentax ME Super, Kodacolor VR 1000 (yes that is three zeros, even that long ago!).

I chose this one for the stall in the centre which appears to be the only one doing busines.
An interesting juxtaposition of the Arabic Society and the Christian Union (when viewed with more recent history).

Thank you to everyone leaving a comment or vote on The Flying Jacket. I liked the question of whether it is a jacket that can fly or a jacket used when flying Smile

Those were the days...
Warwick University 1968. The place was still a building site, there were only 3,000 students but we felt in control.
I wonder if today's freshers have that sense of freedom?
Oh and the dominant force was SocSoc, the Socialist Society. But that was Warwick.

Oh I remember Nottingham Uni.
I knew I was getting fitter as my legs ached less as I climbed the hill back to the accommodation blocks from the bar.

I was only there a week in '91 as part of my OU course, I remember excellent laboratories.

I think it is a more cut-back affair now. I know my granddaughter started at University last week, and we felt sorry for her. No end -of-school dance due to the virus, and no welcoming affair at university. When her parents took to her enrol only one was allowed to accompany her to her room with luggage and could not stay very long.

The Arab Society might, these days, attract unwelcome attention, from many directions - which is sad.

But this was back before Donald Trump invented the nought... He must have done, of course, because his view is that nothing good could come out of the Middle East: previous versions of history know which culture introduced zero, which makes such a difference to maths. Try doing arithmetic with Roman numerals.

I remember that film, too. I suspect Kodak wish we didn't, though!
