Fritillary on Scabious

A dark green fritillary butterfly feeding on a field scabious taken late on Monday afternoon when I visited a local nature reserve managed by butterfly conservation after work.

I wish I had an award to give for this one-- the butterfly and the flower stand out brilliantly, yet we see a normal environment as well-- very natural and exceptionsl!

You've captured this butterfly in an excellent postion Ed - feet showing, wings slightly up - excellent detail. I have a variety of fritillary that frequents my yard, a Gulf Fritillary, and it has the most wonderful silver on the undersides of its wings.

Lucky you, these are very rare nowadays. What a great capture of a Dark Green! The scabious just makes the image complete.
