From the path

By mlseawell
As California burns the smoke drifts eastward across Idaho, New Mexico and of course Utah. My wife and I got up on Friday morning well before sunrise to make the drive to the Uintas but we were disappointed to note how hazy it was so we turned around. On Sunday morning we tried again noting the air quality would be worse, much worse, at home in Ogden then in the Uintas. So off we drove for nearly two ours to hike a trail we had never tried before, Lofty Loop. It was nearly 5 miles of several lakes and after gaining elevation some truly incredible views of the mountains shrouded in haze/smoke. This moment was captured just before we made our ascent, a lake in the distance and the mountains, ever present and looming..from the path.

California's burning, and El Presidente... Fiddles?

I have friends near San Francisco, and so I know a little about air quality, and the way that poorly-maintained power distribution kit causes fires. So, in threatening conditions, the power companies sometimes turn it off. No power for water pumps...

And we all thought that Chinatown was just a story...
