Frozen Lamb

By danbrann
This one is for CarolG as it is taken with my new toy the Lumix but it is mainly taken to show the conditions our farmers are coping with. This is 200 yards from my house yesterday and although we have no snow it is bitterly cold . The lambs have their plastic macs on

200 yards? That's almost as far as I've walked all week it's been so cold. I expect to more than double that just walking round Aldi tomorrow.
Strangely enough we'll be looking for some lamb, but without the plastic mac.
What am I on about? Dunno, I wasn't there at the time.
Crystal clear image from the new toy.

So sad... I was watching them pull sheep out of drifts on the news last night. Hundreds may have frozen or suffocated under the snow.

Never seen plaggy macs on them either, Danny.

Nice one, Dan SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile
It always makes me laugh, the farmers mollycoddle the lambs with their rain macs, but thinkk nothing of slaughtering them to put on the dinner table Sad Carol

If one could only managed 200 inches at the moment. A great image, the breed of sheep clearly being Southern, Northern sheep would not have great big overcoats on....

Lovely image, the weather is certainly taking its toll. Just out of our village up on the moors they are pulling them out of drifts up to 15 foot, the ewes are saved but sadly the lambs are not sad.

What a hard world they are coming into - need all the help that is possible. The ones in your shot are lucky!

I feel so sorry for all the poor animals caught up in this awful weather. These are lucky by the look of it and at least have no snow to contend with and a little coat to give some sort of protection. What a terrible time for the farmers and their flocks and herds.

I think it is great that they have macs. No snow in Dorset

A very hard time for farmers (just had it explained to me that lambs have not got the oily coats of the adults and so their coats readily absorb moisture, it is the wet and the cold combined that kills them).
Well documented.

Extra work for farmers this weather with the lambs and they dont get a great price at the market when they sell the lamb to think how much you pay for a leg or joint of lamb at supermarket's,Someone somewhere is making profit.
A great image of Mum looking after the young onesSmileSmileSmile

I saw lambs with plastic macks on for the first time during my canalboat holiday the other week, they looked most amusing clad in bright red! No snow here thankfully but it is bitterly cold

Hard times for farmers and their stock.
Glad to see some well tended lambs here.

Those coats appear rather inadequate ~ a most interesting capture Danny.

They have macs on to shed the rain Albert. Their wool is not the same as mothers when they are so young.
