The latest in the series...!

As per Moira's advice yesterday (thank you Moira) I decreased the brightness slightly and increased the contrast the same amount.

I'm wondering... does seeing the picture in a bit of it's context add or deflect from it? I don't think it's quite as striking as the 2 previous uploads... would be interested to hear what you think...

Thanks again for your time in looking tonight.

Good question. There are times when a bit of context adds a lot - for example if it either adds to the grungy feel or provides a total contrast. But I think street art almost always needs to be photographed full square, direct, unless there's a really compelling compositional case for an angled view. What I'd really like to see here is a portrait shot of the lad on the left, with the tree trunk alongside him, and a square or landscape shot of the school name with the girl to the right. There's a lot of scope here!

Not as striking as the last 2 but its nice to see them on the boards in between the trees

Very attractive artwork capture; a little mature for a primary school (mind you, I have to keep reminding myself that primaries mostly involve 11-year-olds; here we have a Middle School system with transfer at nine...)

I reckon that this is where you could profitably apply the multiple-upload facility as an e2 member. The best display of the artwork itself is bound to be from head-on, but use a second version for context - the same as I sometimes do with my Saturday pub signs; and why not ask people which version they prefer?

I do prefer the tighter more detailed takes of your previous uploads.
But we have seen them,so good to see the bigger pic too !!

Yes I can see you moving into multi uploads Rachel very quickly. If you trail back through some of Moira's shots you will see some excellent examples of isolating part of the big picture. But an added shot to give the context really helps.

'Fraid I've got time for only a quick message here tonight and will catch up with clicks and comments later in the week.

Hi Rachel
Having just looked at your two previous uploads...I agree with you and don't think this one is as striking, but still worth a vote!

I like a little bit of context though Rachel ... it's what makes this your image and not the grafitti artists perhaps?
