Gathering Cobwebs

By Philip_H
An old horse-drawn riding plough in the Great Barn, situated in the courtyard at Dalemain House, Cumbria.

The Great Barn was built in the 1500s and is one of the largest and most impressive loft barns in the north of England. The roof height was raised in 1685 by order of Sir Edward Hasell. The Barn, which has a monastic feel, now houses an agricultural and fell pony museum on the upper floor, and contains an exceptional collection of agricultural implements which have only become outdated through the mechanisation of farming over the last seventy years. It is full of various equipment, from carts and ploughs to hand tools and bric-a-brac of a bygone country life.

An interesting and informative narrative supported by a very appealing well worked composition and capture which in turn has been very well processed in an appealing bygone style.

Thanks for sharing Philip.

Good old-fashioned treatment, Philip, I remember seeing these in my Grandad's farm.

Seems a shame that it ends up like this after a lifetime of productive work. Well spotted.

I have been a gardener but never a full fledged farmer, yet these old practical tools always strike a chord for some reason. The gears, levers and pull rods all make such obvious good sense. Backgrounder is good stuff as well. TG
