Hi Ann, I don't remember you ticking the critique box before, at least not for a long time. I wonder if there are any aspects here that you are not satisfied with, that you want advice on?

As I see it, it's a super image and would do well for votes and awards in the main gallery. It has a dignity and elegance. And it's taken with care, the settings look spot on to me.

My only suggestions are regarding proportions and placement. I've uploaded a modification (find it under the blue Modifications button below your upload). A bit lest space at the top, to raise the eyes in the frame to around 1/3 down from the top; less canvass on the left and more on the right, for George to look into.. He's a bit central in the original, which does not work so well with the 3/4 face. And I did a bit of very gentle dodging on highlights in that eye.

Just suggestions, because that's what we are here for - but it really is a very good upload.

Hi Anne.

A really beautiful shot of a gorgeous George. I agree with Moira, a real show stopper. I would also place it a bit differently, the near eye more to the left; fill in some black on the right side where theres a faint bleed through of the background; lift the shadow detail in the eye so it sparkles.

The image was uploaded with the Adobe RGB colour profile, remember to convert to sRGB before uploading, it can make a difference to some browsers.

Ive done this in the mod, and slightly altered the overall tone by reducing red saturation a touch while increasing yellow.

Well done.

I don't have anything much to add, other than that the position George has in the frame affects the mood. As you posted the picture, I see him watchful, looking way outside the frame for possible danger. Moira and Willie have given him an easier look, less watchful, perhaps.

I'm not a dog-lover, and I've never owned a dog. But I have made friends with one or two belonging to human friends, and I think I would love to meet George.

If this wasn't in the Critique Gallery, I'd very probably give it a user award. It is that good.

Hello, Ann, and welcome to the Critique Gallery.

We don't tend to get images as good as this uploaded here, and I feel sure this would do well in the main Photo Gallery. Is there anything you particularly wanted comments on, or help with?

The main suggestions have been dealt with above and the modifications look very good. You have a very attractive companion and model, make the most of George, he is going to be very popular on the site.

Thank you so much, your help has been great to get me back to thinking photographer not Rough Collie breed of dog, I had taken the photo for a profile picture of the dog to show the good points of his breeding, which include a dark eye with no hint of pale pigmentation. With that in mind I had lost sight (pun not intended) of how the overall image would be viewed by people not obsessed with the breed.
The original uncropped image sits well, with lots of room to the right for George to look into. So at least I can re crop it and adjust the light to enhance.
Thank you.

Hi Ann and a warm welcome from me too.
George is lovely and you have really done him proud here.
Speaking as a dog show judge, he has a lovely kind expression, good colour, a nice dark eye and lovely ear placement.
You have the eye nearest to us nicely in focus which drops off well.

I did add a mod, gave him more space on the right as is the general consensus, cropped a touch from the left to put him in a better position in the frame.
Added a touch of sharpening to really show off the super 'Collie' texture of his coat.
Brightened very slightly and converted to sRGB.

Hello, I have just joined EPZ and this is my first comment under the critique section. I am writing because I love the image and we had our own Sheltie for 14 years. They are noble dogs who love to show-off. If you do take other images of your gorgeous dog, I would try the direct eye look at the owner, which can bring out an owner / dog connection. I like taking shots of our King Charles Spaniel running towards me with his long ears flying. Another alternative for a great image
