Gerroff my food

By moiral
Evening all. Apologies for not being around too much this week, but have been really busy. On Thursday I went for a workshop at Argaty Kite Centre near Stirling. Was a great day, got a morning's instruction on using my camera from a professional wildlife photographer. However, as usual, I jinxed the wildlife. The Kites took over 2 hours to come out of the trees to get the food, and they only did so because the crows descended upon it. In fact they only came down in my last 10 minutes when the light was fading. Then my remote would not do continuous shooting, so had to manually work the camera while trying to keep it steady on the beanbag. Had also ordered a sigma 150-500mm lens and it did not come in time for the workshop Sad, but the photographer kindly loaned me his 400mm lens. Mainly rear views of the Kites as they had decided to go for the food I was not focused on! I do however have some lovely crow shots!
Should point out that these birds, despite being tagged are totally wild.
Thanks for C&Cs on previous upload. Will do some catching up tonight.

A cracking capture, Moira, shame the kites took so long to make an appearance, but you got what you wanted in the end Smile Carol

Good timing on this one Moira. Your day sounds as good as mine last Saturday. Went to Gigrin for the kites, weather was a bit iffy, light was appalling and when I got home I ended throwing all my shots away! 150 mile round trip for nothing!! ah well! Lou

Oh dear Moira, everything working against you. I'm with Lou up above, I've been to Gigrin now three times, I was supposed to go today but couldn't make it, and I don't have a shot worthy of uploading onto epz. Just have to go back again. Great image.

I say you have done very well, under the circumstances and they seem to be the things that only happen to me - hoping to get to go to a wedgetail eagle centre sometime this week, and hope to get some shots. Have a good week..Jo
Good action and a great experience curve for you, not only a new form of photography but a borrowed long tele lens, never east to get to grips with right away. The two crows add a touch of the big bird winning the food. You'll be back here again.

I am always saying this Moira - bird shots and me do not gel, I only get fresh air - so I think you did a fantastic job getting this great action shot, although perhaps not what you had in mind. The shot is a wonderful natural shot, well done. Carole

Sounds like an interesting day ! Fantastic plumage in the kite and really horrible looking crows too !!! Did you get the sunrise this a.m I had similar thoughts as there was a beautiful red sun yesteday a.m. but not this a.m. (Have done some experimenting today and look forward to seeing what you think .) Fine action shot here Moira. A
I went to Gigrin Farm to photograph Red Kites and although there was plenty of action like you the weather and light was against me and I was totally overwhelmed by the experience. I don`t have any really decent images and I must have taken over 400! As far as I am concerned its a good excuse to try other Red Kite feeding stations!!!Smile
