Well seeing as you asked; I think I would have removed the tree from the back as it takes the eye away from the focus of the picture which is all about the giraffe. But oh to be in a position to take a photo like that.

The light in the sky is better placed here but I am with Tony with reference to the tree in the bg. Removing it would really put the focus onto the lovely Giraffe.
Dof is good with super detail and colour.

For really thorough critique, put it in the Critique Gallery!

I'd just note that my understanding is that wildlife competitions require a lack of clever editing - replacing the sky and removing a tree would not be on.

I'm not sure that the overall lighting and quality are up to standard for pictorial competition - clearly the light was relatively poor...
