Girls Go Shopping

By jonathanbp
I was surprised to see so many young people, especially teenage girls and young women, wearing kimono's in Kyoto. I asked at my hotel if there was a special festival on in town and I was informed that there has been a renaissance in traditional clothing amongst the young of Japan. I saw a few men in kimono outfits too and male-female couples walking around in full traditional costume, just going about their business.

These three young women were just like any women of their age group in any developed or developing nation - out shopping on a Saturday....kimono's and shopping bags full of new shoes!

I'm hoping that they were Manolo's or something fancy as they may have felt 'cool' in their kimono's but their wooden sandals looked cumbersome and uncomfortable.
