I can see Harry Potter [I wear varifocals, can see Mars]. No excuses needed, it's the composition that makes this image in my opinion and leaving in the farm, sound judgement, because it puts everything into perspective. The timing of the train was perfect; Dumbledore was definitely watching over you on this one Richard.
The colours are nice and strong contrasted against the grey viaduct; it's only a wrong lens when there is no image at the end of it and this is a great image. Some one once said, it is the photographer that makes the image not the equipment and you have made the best of this.

The perfectly balanced composition. The positioning of the farm within the frame adding a wonderful sense of scale an proportion whilst at the same time your use of your 17-40mm lens has ensured that you captured the length of the viaduct and the crossing train without having to reduce to using a photomerge.
