This was taken at "Protaras" in Cyprus on a very special morning ! I was there way before dawn and I was walking along the coast line searching for a computationally good place to put my tripod. TPE (The Photographers Ephimeris) app gave me the exact position and time of the rising sun and that was a huge help ! I managed to get 2 frames that morning and this is the second one , when the sun already cleared the horizon. When the sun is right in front of you then you usually get into trouble with contrast. The clouds though helped to tame the harsh light and made the post process much easier. As usual , a single RAW file taken with the Nikon D800 and the Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8 fitted with the Nisi filter holder plus the Nisi 10 stop and the Nisi 3 stop ND soft grad . Exposure was 115,0 sec; f/16; ISO 100 @ f/16.
Basic post process ... Additionally a darkening gradient was used to lower the sky luminosity , and a mild "Orton" effect was applied to the highlights with the help of a bright luminosity mask. a little dodge and burn was applied , and finaly a subtle vignette was added to draw attention the center
