Go to the Light

By jjnxyz
I thought this photo would be appropriate to show this weekend. I took the photo several years back while on a pilgrimage in Spain where we ventured along the "El Camino de Santiago". wherein English it is known as "The Way of Saint James". This picture was taken in the interior of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral[ which is reputed as the burial site of St. James the Great (an Apostle of Jesus Christ) The architectural style represents the influences of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque trends. The Cathedral was started in 1075 and completed in 1211..

Beautiful to see, one of my relatives made this pilgrimage two years ago, Thanks for sharing this. I like the way the distant central figure is illuminated in the archway and stands out.

Hello again. This is your third upload in the Critique Gallery, we have still received absolutely no response from you to comments made on your first two CG uploads. So we are working in the dark, we do not know what advice you are looking for, we do not even know if you look back to see comments.

Here you have given plenty of historical background, but what we need to hear is what you wanted to capture, how you set about it. Did you use a tripod or were you hand-holding? Did you use auto or, for example, aperture priority?

My feeling looking at this is that the composition is rather random, there are awkward cut-offs (the left side of the chandelier, the windows at the top... ) Composition is about finding an angle that fits lines into the frame so that they occupy it on their own terms, look as though they are meant to be there...

There are also curious blue lines running down the left and right sides of the frame.

But at least this does not have the aggressively ugly colour processing of the dahlia and orchid uploads!

The light from the chandelier is a distraction, a crop could help, it would probably work much better with a high contrast black & white conversion. I wonder if you have compositions with more even lighting?

I could try a cropped modification or b&w conversion, but we have no indication that you are even looking in to see it, so why should I bother? The Critique Team are all volunteers, we spend a lot of our time here, we work with members who want to learn and improve, we depend on having communication, on knowing what people are trying to achieve and whether any of our advice helps. If you cannot give that feedback you would be better simply uploading in the main gallery for votes.

Please consider what you want from the site, the Critique door remains open if you decide to participate.
Regards,
Moira

Sound words from Moira above, the Critique Gallery works much better when we know what you were trying to achieve, how you got to the final image etc, etc and we have, so far, had no response form you on any of your images posted here.

Did you intend to post in the Critique Gallery ? if not then we may be able to help by getting your images moved to the main gallery where you will receive votes / awards.
We are always here to help but we depend on feedback from the person posting for critique.

Yes, how do I add the photo to the main gallery?
Thanks

Ticking the Critique Wanted button on initial upload will put images into the Critique Gallery, don't tick the button if you want your images to go into the Main Gallery.
We can help get this moved for you.

This seems to be one of those pictures that has a great deal of meaning for the person who took it, and which sparks memories: it doesn't necessarily do so for others who haven't been there, or who don't share your beliefs...

Like Moira and Janet, I am not sure what you want from the Critique Gallery and the Critique Team - if you want our input, please respond to our comments. If not, as has been said above, you should post in the main gallery, where more people are likely to look at your pictures and share your joy in the pilgrimage.

Could be better perhaps a little brighter, with lower contrast.

See mod.
