Golden Oldies

By HobbitDave
Thought I would upload an old Kodak Retina camera ive been restoring and hope to put some film through soon.
Many Kodak Retinas were made, the first ones were pre-war, starting 1935.

This one was made in 1946 and is one of the rare variants, with an American f2 Ektar lens, which was Kodaks best. Sharper even than the Zeiss Tessar lens fitted to a few Kodak Retinas. The little L within a circle on the rim of the lens means that it was coated, a big plus in those days.

This particular model was made in Germany and the lens was imported from USA. Some cameras with this lens were supplied to American G.I.s who had been billeted to Germany.

Hopefully it will produce some sharp photos. The rangefinder lines up accurately. The camera is 72 years old.

Just think now___ A very short time ago something like this was pretty much top of the heap in the camera world.

A fine looking old camera here, Dave 📷 And at 1 year older than me, it looks in far better condition - can you restore me to look this good?!! 😁

very gentle drop of lighter fuel into the shutter gap might unstick, Cliff, only a drop. See the net, Franka are nice, the Solida 111 especially 👍

It does look to be in mint condition, and if you get a film through it, it would be great to see some of the results here on site.
All the best with the restoration.
