Gompas

By Subhashsapru
I made this image using my D80 and 18-135 mm on a sunny day. Originally it was a colour image, but later on I changed it to B & W as I find its better. I shall appreciate if any fellow member advises me on how to further improve this image.
I wish to share that while uploading here I have reduced its resolution.

Mr Sapru, Lovely image. Some sort of spiritual emotions are aroused on seeing this picture. Domes as well as clouds are beautiful. I have uploaded a modification. I am always tempted to play around when the image is in Photoshop. I have done the same here. Its just my style/opinion. You may ignore it. I have tried to create a dramatic impact by using gradient tool, burn and doge tools, levels etc to lift the image. Also I have recomposed the picture so as to give the more space to the clouds though the fore ground is our primary interest. Deep

I would have stayed with colour. It is obviously a colourful scene and mono does nothing for it for me. I think you needed more building and less sky compositionally - the balance is very bottom heavy. You could restore balance by a drastic top crop to letterbox - you do not need all that sky.

Paul

Are these stupas, Subhash?
It would be interesting to see the original colour version. I am sure the flags are colourful.
Did you convert to mono because the stupas were very bright?
I like the way you have included so many in the frame, your perspective on them, and the fact that they are set against the darker part of the background.
The flags are tending to act as a barrier to viewing your subjects, and I wonder if there was another angle whereby they could either be excluded or included without going across the front of the image. Also, I feel the structures would be more interesting with even more perspective, showing the front one quite large and the others tailing off into the background.
The sky is quite dramatic and I like that, but feel the stupas are a bit too close to the bottom of the frame, so a bit less sky and a bit more space at the bottom might look better.
Pamela.
Dear Pamelajean,
Thanks for your suggestions. In fact these were on a higher pedestal and I had to climb a wall in the foreground to make this image. Also, there was no colour at the bottom. Moreover the space in front, I f I had to take the view by keeping one in focus and rest as a tail, was not sufficient. Some construction material was spread there. Any way, I shall upload its original version too.
