Gone to the dogs

By HowardA
One from this weekend down in Somerset. Went to visit some friends who decided to take us to watch the annual terrier racing event. It was hysterical...the dogs are all pets and they loaded into traps (greyhound racing style) and a 'hare' is pulled along on a wire and the dogs are meant to chase it. Some never leave the traps at all (you can see one with its back to the gate), others leap out and start fighting with the neighbouring dog and a couple make it to the end. You can even bet on them at the tote (10p bets!). To be fair, there were some very very quick dogs amongst them but it was much better fun to watch the mayhem at the trap end of the field.

It was a brilliant afternoon with bouncy castles, pillow fights, coconut shy, raffles and the like. Great to see community spirit very much alive and well.

Don't mind how this picture goes down - it's just for fun. Suprised to get one steady for the amount I was laughing. The traps had just been opened when I took the shot.

Thanks for looking in.

Sounds like a real laugh Howard, quite impressed that you got this shot without and camera shake due to laughing so much. I aslo like the dog facing the other was, its a real classic this mate, nicely taken.

Cheers guys! Shame about the blown highlights on the dog with its back to me - didn't have all that much to meter from before the doors were lifted but I think it still does the job though. Maybe I should learn to soot RAW and then I might have been able to salvage something Wink

Or "Ready Steady Go".
This is truly amazing, and your narrative brings a smile. Each of them tells its own story. Great fun. Well captured. I wondered what the big white blob was in the second cage, but you are forgiven.

Talk about timid! It cracked a smile when I saw it and a bigger one after reading the story.
Excellent shot!
